About Julie

As an artist I consider myself a surrealist. I love creating unusual, humorous combinations of images in repsonse to some form of narrative. For example I have created works around the stories of Alice in Wonderland, Aesop’s Fables, Noah’s Ark, Creation, Evolution and a LOT of Rabbit works playing on the words Hare/Here/Hair and Hear!

For 17 years, I taught Art at High School level. During this time I was predominantly a printmaker, exhibiting wood-cuts, dry-points and zinc-plate etchings. In 2010 I resigned from teaching and completed a Masters year in Painting at the University of Canterbury, Christchurch. During that time I also experimented in sculpture and had some clay figures cast in bronze for my show titled Alterpeace.

I have a studio in Shirley, Christchurch. Visitors are welcome by appointment only, please feel free to contact me to make a time.
