This body of work could be viewed as a metaphor for the bizarre world we inhabit: The wide variety of cultures, beliefs, experiences, and passions that inform human behaviour. The idea of a Rabbitat, (habitat), uses rabbits to personify passion, fertility, and population explosion. My paintings, Rabbitat and Coney Island, are inspired by Panel 2 of Heronimos Bosch’s Famous painting, Garden of Earthly delights. He is telling the story of life gone berserk from the original intention of God’s creation.
The bronze and porcelain works represent aspects of everyday life. We all live with our memories, imaginations, and beliefs, combined with daily encounters of people and inanimate objects; The Bunny Balls represent this bizarre large rubber ball my sister and I were given. You were supposed sit on it, hold on to the long ears and bounce around the room. We were terrified, we thought this angry, fat, red, rubber rabbit might come to life and chase us!
